Simple Steps to Start Losing Weight

It's time we MAKEOVER our kitchen! Today I want to share some simple tips and tricks to CLEAN out your kitchen, pantry and fridge so being successful during your health and fitness journey is EASIER!
GET THE RIGHT TOOLS:

Each of these tools you'll need on a regular basis to help in prepping your food for each meal. Keep these items close, I like using a bamboo utensil holder which I keep right next to the stove.

  • Paring knife
  • Veggie peeler
  • Measuring cups
  • Food Scale
  • Snack size plastic bags
  • Portion Control Containers

Be Smarter than your snacks:

A coach once told me that "open bags can lead to saddlebags." What that means is that these opened bags of snacks can easily lead you to OVER consuming! Even if it is healthy!

As soon as you come home from grocery shopping, wash your veggies and fruits, portion them out into bags based on your meal plan, if you grabbed whole wheat crackers or almonds portion them out! Those opened bags of food could keep you from seeing the results you're working hard for!

Abs are made in the kitchen!

Get Fooducated:

Being educated on your food options is SUPER important, mobile apps like Fooducate can really pay off in the long run when you're new at clean eating. Fooducate will allow you to do a side by side comparison and even provide a grade based on nutritional content.

Pantry/Fridge Makeover:

At eye level in my pantry what you would find on my shelves:

  • Brown Rice Unsalted rice cakes
  • Unsalted Raw Almonds, Cashews, Peanuts
  • Instant rolled Oats
  • Protein Powder
  • Shakeology
  • Canned Low Sodium black beans
  • Canned low sodium diced tomatoes
  • Instant Brown Rice
  • Dried Fruit such as craisins, raisins, cherries
  • High quality protein bars

So you've started a new workout and nutrition routine; that's great but there's temptation everywhere! Throw out the items that you shouldn't be eating! Use this as an opportunity to WIPE out the entire fridge!

Healthiest foods are most perishable! THOSE are the ones you want to be eating!

Most of the healthiest foods will be perishable and stored in the refrigerator. Often times when we want carbs we reach for the crunchy salty snacks. Keep those out of eyes reach the RARE occasion you have them in your pantry. Put them on the HIGHER shelf, out of sight, out of mind!

Things to do right now to get started!!!

  1. Remove high fat, high sugar temptations from the kitchen.
  2. Survey the refrigerator for frequently consumed foods that can be swapped out by lower fat and reduced calorie alternatives.
  3. Stock up on small plastic food bags, snack containers, and clear plastic fruit bowls for display.
  4. Arrange prep tools in an easy to reach place. The fewer steps, the better!
  5. Spring clean your fridge, make room for the fresh stuff.
  6. Divide snacks into individual servings and arrange in the front and center of the pantry!
